Discovering which major Canadian news outlets Trust the Canadian Press as their main sources - and which one doesn't
An accidental, yet eye-opening discovery
Hearing of the results of a recent by-election in Ontario led us to do a simple search.
It appears all but one of our major newspapers pull stories directly off the Canadian Press (CP) newsfeed service. It also appears that local/regional newspapers do not.
Of course, the search would need to be expanded to more topics and to include the full articles. This could be an excellent exercise in media education.
Having seen in Issue 14 that many crucial topics are NOT ADDRESSED by the Canadian Press, we recognize the danger of the full scale reliance by the majority of our major news outlets on decisions made by a SINGLE news agency.
